About

Growing up, the only pets I was allowed to have were fish. It’s hard to grow attached to those.

Rottweiler puppy, Woodrow, on Lorraine’s lap.
Many years later, I was visiting friends. They had just gotten a Rottweiler puppy from the people at the bottom of the hill, and she sure was cute!! After hearing me say so, our friends took us to visit the puppies. It wasn’t my intention to get a dog. I had never even considered owning a dog. Yet when I sat down to play with the puppies, one leaped into my lap and chose me. Repeatedly, he returned to my lap, even when he was put with the other puppies. And so, Woodrow was mine. And I was his.

With Woody at my side, I learned so much about life and dogs. I learned…

  • If you treat dogs like family, they believe they are.
  • Dogs are good judges of character. Their reactions to strangers at the door should be taken seriously.
  • Stereotypes don’t necessarily apply. Rottweilers are only mean dogs if you raise them to be mean dogs. But not Woodrow; he loved the mailman, the vet, kids, and dressing up for Halloween!
  • Dogs teach us life-changing lessons: the meaning of unconditional love, how to greet someone with enthusiasm, and how to enjoy simple pleasures such as relaxing in the back yard or a walk down the street.

Woodrow plays with the kids.At about age 10, Woodrow began taking Glucosamine for the start of canine hip dysplasia and canine arthritis.  As he became a senior dog – at about age 14, that was no longer enough. Inside the house, Woody began to have difficulty standing and walking. It tore at my heart that “my puppy” (I called him that even on his last day, and he believed it) struggled to stand up or walk on the hardwood and tile in our home. I was consumed by the need to find a traction aid for him. I checked the pet stores, asked our vet, and searched the web. With no viable solutions available anywhere, I did what I had to do…I invented Power Paws! They gave Woody the ability to stand without any struggle, and to go where he wanted when he wanted. That is quality of life!!

In honor of my puppy, I present Woodrow Wear. This business is his legacy, and is absolutely dedicated to the millions of older dogs that have traction and mobility issues, and to their owners, who like me, are unable to just sit there and watch them struggle!

Woodrow Wear is also dedicated to all dogs who find indoor traction useful, to the dog owners who want to protect their hardwood floors from scratches.  This business is also for the dogs with nerve, spine, and ligament issues who need traction. Surprisingly, it’s also for the dogs with allergies, and the dogs living in areas of extreme heat or cold — Power Paws give them the ability to go out into the grass and pollen with little reaction, or into the snow without ice/salt issues, and into the heat without burning their pads. Power Paws Reinforced Foot, our newest and most durable solution, protects the whole foot even more than our other products in stickers and on abrasive surfaces.

Always driven to help more dogs, Woodrow Wear has become known as “A Company of Firsts”. We are the first to offer:

  • 13 total sizes
  • 2 distinct foot shapes
  • a reinforced toe product (Power Paws Advanced)
  • a reinforced whole foot product (Power Paws Reinforced Foot)
  • a non-drug allergy solution for dust, grass, and pollen allergies
  • a stretchable, breathable, comfortable sock-based solution that dogs don’t mind wearing

Woodrow and I promise to never stop looking for the next way to add quality and comfort to your pet’s life.  We’ll invent new products and partner with others when that makes sense.  We will continue taking your feedback and suggestions, and keep you posted on our activities. I encourage you to check back often for updates.  If you sign up for the newsletter, you’ll be among the first to know what’s new, get our special promo offers, etc.  For faster updates and even more special offers, like us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram!

I loved Woodrow more than I thought a person could love a pet. I shared a bond with him that I hope this page and the “Who’s Woodrow” page expresses. Welcome to our world!
