About Woodrow Wear
Growing up, the only pets I was allowed to have were fish. It’s hard to grow attached to those.

Many years later, my husband and I were visiting friends. They had just gotten a Rottweiler puppy from the people at the bottom of the hill, and she sure was cute!! After hearing me say so, our friends took us to visit the puppies. It wasn’t my intention to get a dog. I had never even considered owning a dog. Yet when I sat down to play with the puppies, one leaped into my lap and chose me. Repeatedly, he returned to my lap when he was put with the other puppies. And so, Woodrow was ours. Okay, mine. And I was his.
With Woody at my side, I learned so much about life and dogs. I learned…
- If you treat dogs like family, they believe they are family.
- Dogs are good judges of character. Their reactions to strangers at the door should be taken seriously.
- Stereotypes don’t necessarily apply. Rottweilers are mean dogs if you raise them to be mean dogs. But not Woodrow; he loved the mailman, the vet, kids, and dressing up for Halloween.
- Dogs teach us life-changing lessons: the meaning of unconditional love, how to greet someone with enthusiasm, and how to enjoy simple pleasures such as the sights, sounds, and relaxation that can be found in the back yard or a walk down the street.

At about age 10, Woodrow began taking Glucosamine for the start of canine hip dysplasia and canine arthritis. As he became a senior dog – at about age 14, that was no longer enough. Inside the house, Woody began to have difficulty standing and walking. It tore at my heart that my puppy (I called him that until the day he died, and he believed it) struggled to stand up or walk on the hardwood, tile and linoleum floors in our home. I was consumed by the need to find a traction aid for him. I checked all the pet stores, asked our vet, and searched the web. After searching for months, and having found no practical solutions, I did what I had to do…I invented Power Paws!
In honor of my puppy, I present Woodrow Wear. This business is his legacy, and is absolutely dedicated to the millions of older dogs that have traction and mobility issues, and to their owners, who like me, are unable to just sit there and watch them struggle!
Woodrow Wear is also dedicated to the younger dogs who may find a dog sock for traction helpful, to the dog owners who want to protect their hardwood floors from scratches, and to the fashion-conscious dog owners who want their dogs to be suitably dressed in attractive, cute, and fun clothes for dogs. And while the original plan wasn’t for outdoor use, with your help, we’ve also discovered some very important, practical outdoor uses for our product — protection from snow and ice, and protection from very hot surfaces in the summer.
To start, we offer our Power Paws product for indoor (and outdoor) use! They come in a growing collection of designs and holiday themes. Over time, we will offer a range of other fun and useful products. Stay tuned for that!
I encourage you to check back often for updates. If you sign up for the newsletter, you’ll be among the first to know what’s new, get our special promo offers, etc.
I loved Woodrow more than I ever thought a person could love a pet. I shared a bond with him that I hope this page and the “Who’s Woodrow” page express. Welcome to our world!
